The Hamburger Polo Club was launched on 3 January 1898. At first it was just an association of Hanseatic and Anglophile gentlemen who had heard of the relatively new sport of polo in England and were enthusiastic about it. Club life only picked up again in 1927/28.

Around 40 polo players play numerous club chukkas and organize various tournaments on the polo field throughout the year. The harmonious, friendly club life is reflected in the numerous daily events at the club.
